Line illustrations for childrens' reading books

6 books, 45 black & white line illustrations, 2 happy authors, 1 very satisfied publisher... and zero paper was hurt!

My first large'ish project where I drew, not on paper, but all drawn directly on my imac and ipad!

A book publisher got in touch with the requirement to draw simple line illustrations for a series of 6 novel books for children to read.

No tint, no tones, no colour, just a fine line!

So, with my ipad and ipen I drew the roughs. I'd sketched for my own pleasure before with the ipad, but now it was serious.

Using Adobe Sketch and Adobe Draw I set to work with a few example drawings for the publisher to select from. Including loose and sketchy to very controled, almost technical. From these sample drawings, the publishor chose the style they liked and was more than happy to proceed with the 45 illustration!

The authors provided photo references and a brief description of the images that they wanted.

Initially I provided rough drafts to get the content of each illustration approved. These I did on my ipad. Minor tweaks, but the client was very impressed with the rough drawings I'd done.

It made perfect sense to work on the larger screen of my imac with Adobe Illustrator and my Wacom pen 'n' tablet. Saved alot of time not having to scan in paper drawings... and saved the world's trees by not scribbling on paper!

Job done.

"Love all the images! Thanks so much and please do pass on our thanks to the artist."

Happy authors
